My local store has it in stock. But out of the 25 closest stores they listed, only 3 had coal.
Waynesburg, Uniontown and Gibsonia are the only ones out of 25 stores.

I have something nice to say about Tractor Supply. This week I got a Van Wert auger fed boiler, so I need rice coal. I have been a nut coal user w/hand feds and had ordered nut with Tractor supply. So by chance it was the last day of the sale, so I asked the manager if I could switch my nut order to rice, and he said Yes, not a problem. I had it on lay away, so he refunded my initial payment, and used that credit to place a new order for rice. I do not know if that lowered me on the priority list, but I got 4 tons of rice with the VW find so I do not care. Oh, the rice SKU is 1100816 as compared to Nut SKU is 1100817.
The manager said that all it was , was a paper swap.

And talk about paper!!!
I ordered mine a while ago. 4 tons.
I couldnt believe the half assed way they have to enter it in their system. Seperate transaction for each ton and 20 steps to mark it down .50 per bag. What should have taken 5 mins took about 20 mins.

Similar situation in my part of the state. 5 stores out of the closest 25 have it in stock. About a 60 mile radius. Maybe that will increase later on?
One of the stores showing inventory now, supposedly had stock last heating season. I had called them last year when their website showed stock left. The guy answering the phone acted as if he never heard of coal and said that they never have carried it. Which means that he had no intention of ordering anymore for anyone. That store is smack in anthracite country. I suspect that the stores that only sold a skid or two of loose bags have no interest in being troubled by it. The Reading store had one skid last year and they were done.
No big worry for me as I have different plans for my usual coal supply. I had bought a half ton last year just to try it and to mix in on low draft days. Hope to do the same this year.

Doing a pre-order or rain check will get you your coal to any TSC store regardless of stocking or not...you have to get a full ton pallet though.

OK, so a few people are saying that TSC has coal in stock in a few stores, but , is anyone calling to verify that the stores that the web page says have coal , actually do have coal. Reason is, My local store that I had placed my order with, just today web page said that it had coal in stock, this was not the case yesterday, So, I called the store today and spoke w/the manager , I told him of the web page stating that he had coal in stock, and he laughed," No we do not have it in stock, we have placed several orders, and have a ton on order to have in stock. " he spoke of something as a negative order...? whatever that is.
So my deduction from this is that the computer is saying in stock might mean that the store "intends " to have coal "in stock" for the future....? yes/no/maybe, Moe, Larry, the cheese!! Moe, Larry .. the cheese!!!

My store in Maine said they should have coal on the ground in September, a couple tons of rice and 'nut. They are taking orders for the winter and they want it paid for by Oct. 1 if you order now.alpineboard wrote:OK, so a few people are saying that TSC has coal in stock in a few stores, but , is anyone calling to verify that the stores that the web page says have coal , actually do have coal. You made me check and there is some near me too! I'll have to get some to try out and compare to Blaschak.
Quite a few stores in Wisconsin have it too, but only a couple in Minnesota. They must be testing the waters.
Edit: I checked and they have it available in stores in Wyoming and Montana, so they really made an effort to see if they can sell it. I didnt locate any in Iowa, or further west than Montana, or south of Wyoming, but did in Illinois.

Local TSC has coal in stock, pea and rice I believe @ $5.99 a bag. They said they would discount it $.40 to $.50 a bag if you buy over a ton.I also have a coupon good until the 23rd of August good for 10% of the total bill including discounted items.Beaver Falls, Pa.

The Manassas, VA Tractor Supply is selling Kimmels nut and rice coal this year at $290 a ton. They can get you as much as you want with a 2 week led time. I asked about ordering pea coal and they didn't even know it existed nor were they willing to order any.
The thing is I really like how the Marks Brothers operate on pea coal so I'll head up the road to HC Summers in Jefferson, MD for $299 at ton. It will be worth the extra time and money.
Take care, Lisa
