Hot Air Coal Stoker Stove: Reading Allegney Pre 2010 model
Coal Size/Type: Rice

Post by bowersox1 » Sun. Aug. 30, 2015 5:46 am

Not sure If this is the correct area for this, if not I'm sorry. The girlfriend reminded me I need to replace my CO monitor. I've been reading reviews on them and as with anything half is good and half is bad. I'm asking for input from you folks since you have them. I'm not sure if I want a comb CO/SMOKE or not. I've read good and bad. Was looking at CO that displayed the level but not sure it's worth the money. Any brand or models to stay away from? Any input is greatly appreciated.

I think the type that displays the number is good to have since you can see if there is CO present at levels before the non display types are programmed to alarm.

I have two in the house, one by the stoker in the basement and one on the first floor. I also have the standard smoke / CO alarms at the bedrooms and hallways.

Mine are two - three years apart (so they both don't get old at the same time), dated with a sharpie and they get replaced every 5 years.

And that T--is the proper way to do it. :) I've got 4 in 2000 sq. One digital in the stove room. Not a big fan of combo.

Huge benefit to have the readout display near the stove... helps with ensuring your installation is good or if something is starting to create an issue before it gets outta hand. For the extra 20 or 30 bucks purchase the readout.

I have two of these, I'm very pleased with them. I love the ppm read out.

I also see that they make them with lithium batteries with a 10 year life.

Good call McG! Yes, every winter there are reports of Carbon Monoxide associated deaths. Many times its not coal related. All fossil fuels create some level of CO especially if they aren't tuned up for proper combustion.
