Here's some books written by real railroaders, well three of the four. Really good reading. What TV and the magazines don't tell you. Real life experience and awesome stories. How things were.
Vanishing Markers, Ralph E. Fisher (B&M engineer during steam), Out of print. Can still find on occasion. The Stephen Greene Press, 1976
High Green and the Bark Peelers, RM Neal (Grew up with the B&M) Out of print. Grab one if you find one. Duel, Sloan, and Pearce, 1950
The Railroad was our life. Mike Enos (B&M engineer) 2012
I am the train. Mike Enos 2013
Books I Highly Recommend for the Rail Buffs on the Forum.

A couple books I enjoyed. Especially the Pennsy in the 19th century. Well documented history with good photos. The third pic is not a book, but it might as well be because it denotes my Grandfather's 47 years and 1 month on the B&O RR which ended June 28, 1954. Lots of those years were spent as steam locomotive engineer. Never ran a Diesel. It's a cherished document. The wrecks book is really graphic. Shows how things can go very bad very quickly!
