Light Off 9-21-2015
Stove is still on simmer. The only change is in the morning when its a bit nippy I throw a log on top of the coals. The log catches in about 5 minutes and we have an intense fire for about an hour which is just right. In the evening I add another log, pour coal around the log and then sit and wait.
It does feel good

Started off with wood last night then saw the weather so I topped off with coal.
I'll keep her going til Monday morning when it's supposed to get back in the 60's.
Man it does feel good coming into the house when it's 75 inside and 47 and raining outside.

This might be the day for me as well it has been cold and windy for 2 days Have not had a chance to deal with wood but have enough scrap to light off some coal and even if for just a few days until it warms up the oil fired boiler does not warm the walls and make the drafts go away. The coal does that and make the house very comfortable compared to a drafty 140 year old house.

Started burning wood in the LR wood stove last night, and lit another fire in it this morning. Will start a third tonight.
Also reassembled the Glenwood and reconnected the stove pipe, in preparation for this season's first coal firing. That will be after Columbus Day...

Broke down & started a wood fire in the Hitzer yesterday but 2 hours later I was throwing in scoops of the Reading Pea I picked up last June. It's been idling along at 280°-300° ever since the coal took off.

I kinda wish seeing oil's gone down, that maybe coal would follow. Doesn't look too promising. I hear even TSC doesn't offer the deal they did last winter. Must've lost their shirt over it.

Still not burning in central New Hampshire. Got down to 28 last night, up to 64 today. Oil furnace kicked on once or twice last night, keeping it at a nice 70 degrees. Naturally heated up today to 72 inside. Still 72 inside at 7pm

Whoa! Now there's a spread. So how far are you guys into the leaf change? I can't imagine you've peaked yet? We're still mostly green, here in the south. When talking 48 the game is over for me but don't need much. Compared to the pros here I feel like I am walking a tightrope with 200 on stove top and 90 on stack surface. I know it is burning as can sort of see it but slow and low an understatement. I may need to perk it up a bit as draft creeping down to .01 and if get much less time to worry about carbon monoxide in the house.
OK cracked the MPD a bit draft up to 0.015 and ok with that and stove lost a few degrees. There is fire in it's belly as I can see orange here and there but very low and slow. The grates clean so maybe pull this off for a day or two. Stovetop 190 stack 90 draft 0.015

If my draft got down to .015 & the fire was still burning I'd open a few windows! Never see my draft under .025 - .03 unless the fire is dying out.
