Can anyone with the Harman magnafire show me a picture of the plate that they refer to as a damper cover plate. I will be picking mine up friday and I want to make sure he has the plate. Any install pics would be great too. How hard was it to install seems like the flu adapter thing is a bit difficult. Thanks

I have a Magnafire Elite Insert. I had a chimney sweep install it for me, but I looked at the manual and see no reference to a damper cover plate. The damper is part of the chimney that needs to removed or permanently propped open for the insert to be installed. The insert doesn't come with anything that does that for you.
I do see a reference to a flue plate. Is that what you're looking for?

In the Service Parts List provided in another thread recently, there is a reference to a "baffle plate", and a part number is listed as well.
Here is where the Service Parts List is posted...

Bear with me, no "baffle plate" picture.
From the manual:
Soooo, you would need to be reaching through the hole in THE BAFFLE PLATE in the rear of the insert in order to reach through the "flue adapter" to grab a hold on the cross-member.
Do you see the referenced cross-member spanning the oval hole of the flue adapter in the pic?
Best I could do w/o a pic.
From the manual:
That "flue adapter" is easily viewed in this picture here with it's oval hole...hold that thought...Open the loading door and look into the rear of the firebox. Notice the hole left in the baffle of the insert. This hole is to allow you to reach into the flue and grab the cross-member in the flue adapter.

When my stove was originally installed, the chimney sweep did not cover the whole in the rear of the stove. I didn't realize it was a problem at first and posted a question about it on this forum. Fortunately members of this forum alerted me to the issue and my dealer (Duvall's in Rising Sun, MD) came right out and fixed the chimney sweep's mistake. There are pictures from that thread if you want to see what the inside of the Magnafire looks like with the whole open.

Ok I got the insert and I am starting to get ready to pull the old out and install the harman. My question is does the flu adapter just sit on the back of the insert? Do I need to seal it? I don't see any way to bolt it on. Just seems like it could suck air.

I didn't install my insert, so my knowledge is limited. Did you get a copy of the manual? (If not, I can send you a copy.) I'm just reading from that.Gunsnmopars wrote:Ok I got the insert and I am starting to get ready to pull the old out and install the harman. I bolded two things that stood out to me. It looks like there are hooks on the back side of the flue adapter that positions the adapter as the insert is positioned. And, once the flue adapter is in the right place, you use a screw to secure it. Will that work? The manual wrote:With the liner or connector inserted into the chimney, install the flue adapter to the pipe using a minimum of three screws. Position the adapter at a height of just under 24 inches from the floor of the fireplace. (See Fig. B).
Next, slide the insert into the fireplace making sure that the front tab of the flue adapter is resting on top of the insert. This tab may now be used as a guide to help locate the connector base on the flue opening of the insert. Begin sliding the insert in place while guiding the connector base into its proper location. With the adapter close to centered on the top of the insert body, the hooks at the back side of the adapter should pull the adapter into position as the insert slides back.
If needed, you can reach up through the hole in the baffle to guide the flue adapter into place.
Open the loading door and look into the rear of the firebox. Notice the hole left in the baffle of the insert. This hole is to allow you to reach into the flue and grab the cross-member in the flue adapter.
Once the flue adapter is in place on the insert, install one button head screw through the wing mounting flange and into the hole on the flue adapter guide handle. Tighten the screw to secure the flue adapter during the completion of the installation.

I downloaded a manual and I see about the hooks and bolt but mine nor other pictures I have seen have the hooks its justva flat guide on the back. Very odd setup to not actually have a collar on the stove itself

Go get yourself a little tub of furnace cement and once the adapter and stove are in their place reach back in and schmutz furnace cement all around the edges. You will be cherry then. That's how I did mine when I installed it myself

For the record once it's sitting flat and you furnace cement it on. It forms a very strong connection. You will have to persuade it with a hammer to get it off so no worries about it popping off and gassing you out
