Hello to Everyone,

Now that the coal stove is running good, I would like to install a cast iron floor grate above it in the hallway. The stove is in the basement, and the house is single story. The size should be about 14 x 20 (or 24). Cast iron is important because it is an accent. I will also install returns in some areas but the need not be cast iron.

We have a joint around here called Urban Miners. They take stuff from demo jobs and have tons of hardware, doors windows, lighting and anything and everything you would see on a house in the last two hundred years. A place like that is where I would look.

I've seen them at fea markets from time to time.

If you could put your location in your profile so people know where you are, someone may know of a place close to you that has something.

I see them occasionally in the less fancy antique stores and at tag/yard/garage sales.

Welcome HillStreet. Southern Maine is considered south of Bangor around here  If you are near Portland

They are a little pricey with a large collection of doors, windows, grates etc. from the last century. As dhansen mentioned Bryant Stove and Music in Thorndike, Me. should have what you need as well.

Thanks michaelanthony. We are building a house in Alfred now. We own 25 acres in Perham, and that is where I would be building but my beautiful wife ain't gonna have none of that. I really want to live in the county but probably won't happen considering we are in our 60s. I won't build a camp on the land because of security concerns---- you know some bastards would damage it I hate to say.

If it was summer you wouldn't be able to swing a cat without hittin' an antique shop along rt.1, must be 20 or so on your way to the big city.

I bet Skip of wilsons woodstoves can hook you up.

Oh hi, just got to reading your message. No, it does not have to open or close, I would probably defeat that feature anyway.

Thanks pyro, and every one else on this forum. I did buy a cast iron grate 12 x 24 from Reggios, got it yesterday as a matter of fact. I will have the builder to install it in the hallway. It should look good against the oak flooring.
