location is wooded,very humid,s/s 8" chimney. is it worthwhile to burn some charcoal or small wood chunks 2 or 3 times in summer to keep down moisture&possible corrosion? thanks for any input.

Why not! It may not help but wont hurt. Once you get a small fire throw green wood on it to make more creosote.
