Don't get the pea. It's way to big. You want rice or buck.

I agree with the others that pea isn't really a good plan. If you insist on getting pea it should be "small" pea (like Blaschak has been in recent years) and not "big" pea that is closer in size to nut (like Reading has been).

In no event should the rice be physically blended with the larger coal. Uniform sizing promotes a more complete burn. I would use buck (or, if you insist, the small pea) in the dead of winter, and rice during the shoulder and summer months. When the unit isn't running often, rice should hold the fire best and provide the most complete burn.

All of you have convinced me that I should stick with rice.
The manager at the Ithaca, New York Tractor Supply Store
said they will be carrying Kimmel's Anthracite Coal again this year.
