Wheel Barrow??
I am in need of replacing my wheel barrow. I use it ,mainly, to move rice coal from my outside bin to the chute that feeds my basement bins. I was considering one of the "plastic" type. But not sure how it would hold up to the shoveling. I have to shovel the coal out and in to the chute.
Thoughts??

Had one of the original "Garden Way" carts when I was a kid. Well made and easy to use. Carts Vermont seems to have to taken the firm over at some point. You might want to consider one.

I have had a two wheel "Union" brand wheel barrow for almost 9 years and I use it for everything and moving bagged rice coal to the house from the stockpile so no worries there.
Can you build a chute hopper extension so you can simply dump it into the throat of your coal chute? The plastic wheel barrows empty really easy with out fussing. I have left my wheel barrow outside the year round with no issues.

x2. And/or a ramp if needed. Even if a little spills it's way easier to clean some up than to shovel out of the wheelbarrow. A small tarp could help.lzaharis wrote:Can you build a chute hopper extension so you can simply dump it into the throat of your coal chute? Problem is the chute is probably 3' off the ground. So I really don't want to build a ramp. Right now it takes 16 loads to fill 1- 1.25 ton bin. And I have 4 1/2 bins that need filling. So maybe just spread the work out.

If you're okay I'm okay, but devising a short screw auger or a short conveyor would be money well spent.
Or you can wait till it's too painful for your body and then come up with something.

Take a ride down Rt 87 in Newbury. Just west of Auburn Rd. (A little past the Speedway,Bank and Feedstore) You'll find Ironman Supply. It's on Your right as You head west. They have every conceivable wheelbarrow type there. That also includes the two wheel models, steel and synthetic tubs, etc.

Shovel it into 5 gallon buckets and then use the wheel barrow to move the buckets. Dump the buckets into the chute. That's a lot easier than shoveling it twice. If you can accumulate enough buckets put the buckets right into the bin and fill them, get a layer filled and then add another layer of buckets. That will eliminate a lot of the shoveling into the bucket. Make sure you leave one spot empty to shovel out so you can get the first one out. I hate shovels.Kungur wrote:Problem is the chute is probably 3' off the ground.
Assuming it's just the top part bad on your old wheel barrow take it off and build a platform to put the buckets on. If you are going to buy one don't go cheap, the plastic ones are fine but you need the contractor grade ones. Expect to pay $150 to $200.
