Hand Fed Coal Stove: Hitzer 50-93 & Harman Mark I

50-93 is an excellent stove. I have had mine for nearly 10 years. Runs like a champ and as Rob said earlier, when mild out it goes for 24 hours without tending. I burn both pea and nut depending on season. Also, a fan unit is desirable.

I heard u can take the hopper out and burn stove size coal.. anyone ever try it?

Nope. Once you see how nice it runs with nut or pea coal in the hopper I doubt you will want to change anything.

Make sure you get that hopper mounted right and a good gasket on the lid...you do NOT want air being drawn down through the hopper while the stove is burning.

I don't run the blower on mine. I've tried it and didn't notice a difference. I don't like the extra noise either........same reason why I'm not married. :)

thats a big 10-4 scooby no mariage=a piecefull quite life, luckily I work at metal shop,so the hopper wont be to much a hassel. grinderwheel and cut er out,get new gasket+some sealer and we shoudl be good. yea I heard of some hopper lid gasket issues and catchin on fire. don't think a open fire in house would be a very good outcome.

I don't have a Hitzer 50-93 ,i hear they are a very good stove. One thing I do know is that I was much happier during my 39.5 yrs of marriage than I am at the completion of 8 months single since my wife died.I have absolutely no clue as to how you 2 guys could be happier single than married, but some folks are unhappy with the choice they made when they bought a coal stove too.Apparently what one chooses to purchase does really make a difference in ones life & what the outcome of satisfaction will be.

If your Hitzer doesn't keep you warm,i doubt it will be any fault of the stove
The fault will probably be yours :)
You have to spend some time close to it to really get warm . :)

I have regretted passing on one of these for $500 that was an Amish refurb.... I was thinking at the time it would roast me out and passed on it. Now I realize I could have added another window to open  Really though, other than the weight of it, and maybe not being a great wood burner in shoulder seasons, there doesnt seem to be many negatives. Im betting you'll love it.

alright fellers,I got er,but they Definitely took the hopper out and looks to me they torched a piece out of it as well. if anyone here hasnt fired thier stove up yet and could possibly take a picture inside on top whear the hopper part is with the hopper removed if its not hard to take out so I can see what the heck the deal is there and what I need to do. if its to hard to take the hopper out, just a pic there with the hopper in place would be fine also maby on the top of hopper whear the lid is would help. I just cant beleive the idiots took the hopper out and did all this. does the hopper just pull right out? is there anykind of seal inside or anything
? thanks

Yes a picture. saves a LOT of guesswork. Fred will clue you in then.

You can always call Hitzer and order a new one. None of their parts are unaffordable. Theres a reason most owners here love them.
