Curious which would heat more? Going to look at another Warm Morning this one is a 523 I believe. I like the WM 617 that I picked up and that is in my garage if I get the this other one will take the place of the Harman MK1. Any one have any thoughts on this one. If it heats better I will not have to push it very much in the dead cold of winter.

If I remember correctly the MK 1 is rated at 48K BTU and the 523 is rated at 65K btu. The 523 will hold a lot more coal than a MK1

you are right the MK1 is 48K BTU's and it only holds about 30-40 pounds of coal where the WM will hold 100 pounds. So by right I should not have to push it as hard as the Harman when it gets real cold this winter.biggerpatterson wrote:If I remember correctly the MK 1 is rated at 48K BTU and the 523 is rated at 65K btu. BTU calculations LxW of the fire pot x 375 or 3.14xRxR X 375 R being the radius of a round fire pot. I'm not sure of the size of the 523 but this estimates my Flirt # 12 at about 31K BTU . Seems about right when comparing it to kero heaters I've used over the years when the power was out and to the pellet stove I used before the switch to coal.

I don't understand this question - The MK1 is a great stove but it's obviously smaller. It will be maxed out much sooner and will require more attention while producing less heat. The WM is a beast of heat production and with it's 100 lbs capacity will take less attention. The WM can also burn bit if you were to chose that.RSorjanen wrote:you are right the MK1 is 48K BTU's and it only holds about 30-40 pounds of coal where the WM will hold 100 pounds. Both are great stoves but designed to achieve different production levels. I see you're in Maine. It gets cold there, right. Go with the WM. Lisa

update on the WM 523. went to look at it today and brought it home. After checking it over noticed the bricks are in mint condition, look new, the grates are in excellent condition. What I had thought from pics of the stove looking at the barrel part, looked weird to me but someone had repainted it a gray/silver color. So looks like I will be doing a repaint next summer on it and do the black on black.

Bob, great to hear you scored a good unit and have it operating.
can you post a link to the manual where you read -.02 for Baro. setting. we have been talking about this in another thread in the Bit. sub-forum and I can't find any of my references.
thanks,
steve
