Hello, I just picked up a Reading Foundry no. 107 stove that has a water jacket. I have a few questions I'm sure the experts on here can help me with. Is it possible to get new grates?
It seems like there should be some fire brick in the first ring above the grates, did they have brick or fireproof cement on this mid section. Is there way to reseal the upper water jacket. The metal water jacket ring seems intact but there is a separation along one of the seems. I'll try and attach a few pics. Is there anyone using one of these stoves.

Welcome.

My Anthracite Industries water heater was never lined.

I think the reason why is a firebrick liner would cut down on the firepot's ability to transfer heat to the water. I think they'd have had to make the stove with a bigger firepot and water jacket to gain more surface area to make up for that reduced heat transfer of firebricks.

If your going to use that to heat hot water, be safe and have it pressure checked (hydrostatically tested).

If I plan on using it for heating water it would be an open system to heat my wood fired hot tub by thermosyphon, no pressure build up. Thanks for the concern.

Sunnyboy Paul- Thanks for the reply, so your red hot coal was in direct contact with the single wall cast iron? My water jacket sits above the mid section.

I have a slightly different Reading Foundry stove. The fire pot is lined with brick. The water jacket is not. Your grates still have a lot of life in them. What do you mean by reseal upper water jacket?Do you mean reseal joints between stove sections,or is your water jacket leaking?

The water jacket on mine extends down to the grate level. The entire top section is the water jacket/firepot, with a loading "hatch" in the center of the top. The whole water jacket/firepot section just sits on top of the cast iron base, which has the triangular grates mounted in the top of the base section.

With yours having the water jacket above the firebed area, then like Fifthg's stove, it may have also had a lined pot to retain heat to help with more efficient combustion.

I'm not sure if the fire pot had been lined or not.
The water jacket is not lined but overhangs the fire box by an inch and a half.
The bottom of the water jacket is cracked almost entirely around on the bottom face where it overhangs the fire box.
I've watched several instructional videos on the process of welding cast iron. I'm going to do my best at fixing the cast so I can use it to heat water.
I guess the individual sections need to be sealed as well?
I saw a similar stove in the weigh office where I buy my coal and thought it was really neat and have been looking for one for a couple years. I finally found one similar and can't wait to get it up and running. If the water jacket repair fails, no problem I'll just use it to heat my man shed/cave.

I gotta get mine fired up this season for barn hot water in the spring -- fun, fun, fun. Pressure test readings on the lid.
