Yep, I did 2 seasons mixed nut/stove & the stove constantly got hung up in the hopper, plus it was tough to keep it goin in the cuff months.

Same here. Even in the small firebox of my Harman Mark 1, stove coal burned fine. But in my DS Machine stove, it tends to hang up at the bottom of the hopper. I stopped using it in the Harman because the larger chunks didn't pack in as close together, so a load ended up being about 15% less by weight (compared to nut). 15% doesn't sound like a lot, but it is almost one-sixth, the difference between 12 hours burn time and 10 hours -- too much.

When I had a hopper stove I sometimes pulled the hopper to burn stove. I love the look of it thru the glass. A prettier fire than nut sized gives.
I did have a little success with stove in my hopper but I only used it if my hopper was low. Id put some in first then top it off with nut.... it didnt have to drop much if at all. lots of extra screwing around but I had a lot of stove sized here that winter. Its much easier to burn nut if you use a hopper as has been said.
