When talking the Vigilant, as vigIIPeaBurner said; It's the double (mostly glass) doors that really sling the heat. The whole stove radiates heat. But, the double front doors will throw a giant beam of heat (and light), 20 feet or so across the room. And at that distance away, it feels like you're sitting under a big heat lamp. Quite impressive for a stove with no fan. The problem with the "OLDER" Vigilant I had was; No one else knew how to operate it. Not the wife; Not the neighbors.

Lay two quiet ECOFANS on top and the Vigilant, the heat will be kicking all through the house! The temps climbed to 38 F today, the Vigilant will burn for 18 hours!

We bought ourselves an iPad for Christmas. One of the apps is called Photo Booth that runs the info from the camera thru different algorithms to give different effects to the picture our eyes see. One is called Thermal Camera - that's the one I used. I have to turn up the brightness on my laptop to see the light on the floor in front of the stove. I thought about Oliver Power's statement just before going to bed, thought about the app and gave it a try. If anything, it's pretty neat
