Harman VF3000
Can someone tell me how many feed and return lines there is and the size and location? On harmans it says 8 sch 80 2 inch water pipes, but I cannot find a location. I am putting in 2 seperate feeds and returns. I would like to know if I can do them individual or must I tee off with 2 inch and reduce both sides of the tee?
Thanks again, Stan

You really need to see a boiler. To try to figure out your plumbing from written descriptions would be like buying a mail-order bride... highly unlikely to work.

Maybe, just maybe someone took lots of photos when they installed their Harman boiler.. coalkirk ??

Stan,
There are 8 heat exchanger tubes. The supply and returns are single 1 1/4" taps. You can always T off of them. That's what I did although just for future use.

If you are heating 2 houses you should look into the keystoker K6 it has a higher BTU output.
the VF3000 is only good to heat 3000sqft

Harman under rates allof their coal burning equipment. I'm heat 4,000 sq. ft. with a VF3000 and it's not working hard.

I'm also heating just over 4000 Sq Feet w/ domestic hot water. Although it was the tail end of the heating season last year, It was not working hard to keep up. We'll see this year, I have noticed if my well water (cold) is not warmed in the hotwater heater slightly (vacation mode) it can drop the boiler temp from 180 to 150 after a few showers.
I calculated the following (just some notes I made):
Btu's to heat water.
1 lb coal to heat boiler from 140-180
Therm is 100,000 BTU's
7.7 lb's coal per therm
Takes 1 BTU to heat 1 lb 1 degree.
Boiler 50 gallons
140 to 180 is 40 degrees.
8 lb's in a gallon.
320 lb's in 50 gallons
320 BTU's to heat boiler 1 degree.
40 degree's 12,800 btu's
13000 BTU's in pound coal
1 lb coal to heat boiler from 140-180

If the boiler can burn 80 lb's in 24 hour's then thats a max of 3.3 lb's an hour. Or 43,000 BTU's an hour.
$10\day or $300\month.
It can do more than twice that... and I only was burning about 40 lbs a day last year during the end of the season, right now I'm about 20-40 untill it gets dialed in. So in coldest months I'll have to see....
